Stephanie Merten, Violinist

Stephanie Merten began playing the violin at the age of 4.  She has performed in orchestras in several countries including Germany (Muenchniker Philharmoniker, Georgisches Kammerorchester); Ireland (Irish Chamber Orchestra) and the United States (Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, the Garden State Philharmonic, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, and as a substitute in the Long Island Philharmonic).  Stephanie has toured internationally as a chamber and orchestral musician through many countries including Canada, China, Estonia, France, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, India, Latvia, Norway, Poland, and Sweden. In 2004-2005, Stephanie toured the United States as a violinist in the Networks production of Oliver!

While performing in the Syracuse Symphony, Stephanie maintained a violin/viola studio at the State University of New York at Oswego, then at Syracuse University while acting as Concertmaster of the Le Moyne College Chamber Orchestra.  Before moving back to Long Island, Stephanie was the orchestra director for grades 10-12 in Liverpool High School. 

Ms. Merten’s early studies included training at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College program and a year at the Hochschule fuer Musik und Theater in Munich, Germany; she went on to receive her undergraduate degree in violin performance at Ithaca College, graduating Summa cum Laude, then, received the Master of Arts in Classical String Performance with Highest Honors from the University of Limerick, Ireland.  During her training, Stephanie studied with William dePasquale, Mauricio Fuks, Lilo Glick, Bruno Giuranna, Burton Kaplan, and Lucie Robert.  Most recently she received a Master of Science in Music Education from Syracuse University and is currently the High School Orchestra Director at Syosset High School.
